‘Too old’ minister replaced by older man

Charles Hendry and Caroline Spelman wer both apparently told that they had lost their jobs in Government due to their age.

Spelman was told that she was part of Sir George Young’s generation. Never mind the fact Sir George would return in a more senior role mere weeks later, Spelman is in her 50s while he is in her 70s. Hendry too was deemed past his prime, according to Scottish newspaper. However, his replacement, John Hayes, is 54, while Hendry is 53!

Paul Waugh revisits the ‘too old’ excuse.
