Despite having been in Government since the Coalition’s formation, first in the Treasury, then as Transport Secretary, and now International Development Secretary, Justine Greening has never yet been on Twitter.
That’s all changed today though:
Hello, this is my first tweet as Secretary of State for @dfid_uk. Excited to be speaking at #OpenUp12 today!

Launching it at Wired’s Open Up conference is a fairly neat tie-in, but it does seem a bit odd that it’s taken Greening so long to embrace social media. Mike Bracken has defended DfID as one of the most innovative depts, and yesterday Rohan Silva noted how all IT projects funded by UK aid must be open source.
#openup12 Cheeky question from @irowan: Don’t forget @dfid_uk has been one of our most innovative digital depts for some time.

Better let then never, Justine.
