I’m sure Olly Neville is a nice enough bloke. I mean, I’ve seen some fairly bonkers quotes attributed to him, but hey, we all said stupid things aged 21. (Shudder, I’m getting, to the age where I can say things like that.) But really, do we have to pretend to care about the UKIP Youth Wing?
Seriously, there are local Lib Dem parties that have more members and political influence.
The fact is that UKIP are simply paying the price for people taking notice of them, and asking what they are really about. They want to claim to be the third party in the UK (nonsense given they have less MPs than the Greens,) and so have to face an increased level of scrutiny. The whole thing is exacerbated with the fraught online political conversation, where any loudmouth can be the story, and fact checking can happen in an instant.
As the Lib Dems had to learn how to face up to being in government, UKIP are going to have to learn how to be a proper opposition party.
Until then, can we all get on with worrying about something important now.
