When oh when oh when are politicians going to realise the internet is public, that people can see their stupidity?
Today’s latest internet idiot is Lib Dem MEP Sir Graham Watson, who decided this was an appropriate contribution to the debate on Algeria and David Cameron’s Europe speech:

The stupidity is utterly breathtaking.
In theory politicians are supposed to intelligent, thinking individuals, but the internet frequently shows them to be anything but. I started writing about the digital political space as I thought it was an area that was at the forefront of debate, something that was truly changing our world.
All too often I end up writing about moronic statements by elected officials who should know better.
Please politicos, if you can’t say anything that informs the public that vote for you, or is of mild interest, then just shut up. If you’re making a joke, it probably isn’t funny, that is why you are a politician not a stand-up, so don’t Tweet it or Facebook it. Probably don’t even email it your friends, just in case. You’ll only send it to the journo list by mistake.
Yes politicians are human, and frankly social media should be a great way to show this to the public, but most humans think before they put something in the public domain. If politicians could do the same I’m sure we would all be grateful.
[...] Seriously – how do we elect these people? [...]
