Cathy Newman, who ran Channel 4′s investigation into Lord Rennard, has explained that the story was ready to go before Chris Huhne food down and triggered the by-election.
She has blogged that when she interviewed one of the women making the allegations against Lord Rennard, Huhne was still pleading innocent.
I don’t doubt that for a minute, but just wish Channel 4 had paused running the story.
Run it on the first Monday after the by-election but, as I blogged earlier, by running it before Thursday it gave people the opportunity to divert the story from the women to the politics
This was undoubtedly not Cathy Newaman’s intention, but it was always likely to happen if the Rennard story was run before polling day.
