Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, and Lib Dem colleague Julian Huppert have been nominated for the Internet Service Provider Associations Internet Hero of the Year award.
The nomination comes after both led opposition against the Communications Data Bill – the snoopers’ charter much covered on this blog. Other nominees include Edward Snowden, the fugitive whistleblower who told the world about the US’ PRISM digital surveillance programme.
Clegg’s fellow cabinet member Theresa May is nominated for the corresponding villain award. As home secretary May was fully signed up to the snoopers’ charter, trying to get it through parliament, before Clegg vetoed it.
