LBC have just announced that it is to go national, and it was Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg who helped make the announcement!
LBC will change its name once again, from London’s Biggest Conversation to Leading Britain’s Conversation, and will become the UK’s only commercial FM talk radio station. It marks a major coup for Global Radio, who own LBC as well as Classic FM, which is currently the only national commercial FM radio station.
Nick Clegg has been hosting a regular talk show on the station, and Boris Johnson and Eric Pickles both have regular slots. Labour’s Ed Balls has also hosted a Balls Calls slot. It was though the Lib Dem leader who broke the news: I’ve been lucky enough to broadcast on LBC, and it’s a fantastic station with great staff and presenters, so I’m personally very excited for the people I know at the station who will now have a greater audience.
