Tom Watson is once again being hailed as a hero after his performance questioning James Murdoch this morning, culminating in the Labour MP calling the News International Executive Chairman “a mafia boss”.
However, Watson’s rabbit-out-the-hat moment was when he revealed that he had spoken to Neville Thurlbeck, who is the former Chief Reporter of the News of the World associated with the infamous ‘For Neville’ email. I am fairly sure Watson said that the meeting took place this morning, and will dig through the transcript when published to confirm, but Channel 4′s Michael Crick has just tweeted:
If true, this does not change the significance of what the meeting revealed, captured by the PoliticsHome live blog. However, if I am right, it is rather embarrassing for Watson, who helped haul James Murdoch back to Parliament after former NOTW executives accused him of misleading the Committee.
